#230 - 28/09/09 01:29 PM Strangles Injection Vs Nasal Application

Last year Saffy got the 3 jabs and had really bad reaction to the second one, big swelling and sore/stiff neck for a few days.

She was due for her yearly 'shot' but this time the vet came out with the nasal application (wasn't given that choice last year). This vet is from USA, anyway, we gave Saffy the nasal one, means she has to have another one in 1 months time, but I liked the fact that I could continue to ride her without any complications as we had last year. The vet was adamant the nasal way was more effective as well.

Was wondering what everyone uses that normally has the Strangles vaccination.

Bills had huge reactions as well, he had a nasal one this time, and was much better. I didnt need one a month later as he was already covered but needs to be 6months not 1 year...

Hi Bexta, well not a lot of people did it in NZ until we had a rather huge outbreak of strangles in NZ last year, we had quite a lot of it in the South Island. So we all started vaccinating after that. Everyone I know that competes vaccinates.
