I seem to be having trouble with my 5yr old keeping his shoes on. he has quite a long overtrack.... my farrier has sugested putting bell boots on him in the paddock.. any other sugestions??? prefer not to go bare foot with him either....

why are they pulling off? has he got crappy feet? My old TB used to lose his shoes, not badly, but for not being ridden, more often than he should simply because his feet were crap. I chucked him onto Metholionine or however it's spelt and there was a big difference in just 6 weeks, then tweaked his nutrition to keep them better. Could he cope with just front shoes on and none on the back? Most horses overseas (well dressage ones anyway LOL) are front shod only.

He may have slightly soft feet, but i cant say that they are crap.... he just has a knack of clipping his front with his hinds... will have to see how the bell boots go....

LOL my farrier used to say the TB's feet were as soft as butter (hence the nails pulling out so easily)

Make the bell boots white ones! Easier to find in the paddock and will reflect the heat so he won't sweat so much under them smile

There's some white bell boots for sale on TM (well they were white at one time)

The other thing it could be is that he is going through another growth spurt and is still struggling to balance himself with a rider. My fella did this last year as well. We were seeing the farrier weekly at one stage for nearly 6 weeks....argh! but he came right all of a sudden. Squaring the front toes to increase breakover speed can also help, as it gets his fronts out of the way more quickly.
