I found an add in the trade and exchange and thought what the hell is a percheron? add said big boned and quiet, and was cheap. When I got there he was grazing in a big paddock with a heap of dog kennels. He thought he was a dog just like all his mates! The lady called him up and he came running with the dogs. He was a real prick. He was cheap because he would not pick up his feet, or lead. I bought him on the spot. He was big boned, black, with little bits of silver and a big streak of laziness and manic about food. I led him on the float with a feed bowl and took him home. Man what a prick he was. No respect for fences, not tie up, not pick up feet ggggrrrr! I got a horseman to tie his feet to when I tried to pick one up and he lifted the opposite one up he fell over. His first trim was with me sitting on his head. Quick learner though, been good since then! He would not stay in his paddock, breaking out every night, pulling out hitching rails, terriorising the lovely Island family on his nightly raids of their taro patch! Then I met Steve Brady and the rest is history LOL No more walking over me, I took control! I backed him, and back then I was thinking all natural, no bits etc, what a mistake that was! A horse can bolt at a walk! Got the dentist out as wanted to bit him after a while of no control and she told me he was rising 2, not rising 4 as he was sold to me as. Got off and did ground work for 2 years before starting again.
