Tracy tried Saffy in one of her Myler bits today and said she felt a lot softer.

It was like a D ring one with a rolling bit in the middle and kinda shaped funny on each side. Haha, does that make any sense?

She thinks that Saffy may be one of those horses that you need to change the bit often with, which makes sense as all bits in the past have had her going soft and lovely for a few months and then she'd get strong.

So what's so different about Myler bits?

I love them, they are shaped differently for a start, and they can give you the ability to shift one side only... would never use anything else now

the books well worth a read - interesting theory - bitting down rather than up....

I like the idea of being able to lift one side up or the other...

I used one on prada and she HATED it.... (Tried for a week and thought it might be qa teething thing but no go - I used the mullen mouth cause thats what she is in now - and I think it was down to the extra movement (She doesnt like loose rings either)

but know lots of horses who go extremely well in them

The shape is good, and in theory the shifting only one side or the other is good, however turned my horse into a head flicking manic so I gave up fairly shortly!

I think for horses that like really still bits they aren't so good, but for horses that need something really soft but really sensitive if you follow, they might work better?

Not really sure, just know I decided I was damn pleased I decided to try before I buy!!

I'm pretty lucky as Tracy just gives me the bits to use for as long as I like and when we change for something else she gives it to me to use instead of having to buy.

I did buy the KK Sprenger double jointed and that turned Molly into flip top head maniac! Within 10 minutes of taking it off she hardly flip topped at all! The double jointed 'bit' was pinching her! So much for them being extra nice and they are so expensive!

I love them and have 4 different mouthpieces.
The Myler brothers did heaps of research with the Dentistry college in America when they were first designing the bits.
Stellar goes really nicely in the comfort snaffle whereas Georgia has a sensitive tongue so when in a snaffle or similar she tosses her head but as soon as I change her to a low ported bit she's happy.
