just got this email from Saskia...
As promished an email regards the Herbal Ban.
It's not only herbs which are banned feed supplements like MSM which occurs naturally in the body are banned too. Vit B1 and vit B12 have a threshold. It pays to go to
www.nzeve.org.nz/files/sharedimages/NZEVA_PROHIBITED_SUBSTANCES_050609_2_.pdf and for the FEI rules go to
www.fei.org/Rules/Veternary/Pages/Default.aspx At this stage Devil's Claw and St John's Wart are banned but the tests are not certain. The witholding time of our Devil's Claw is 10Hrs if you want to be safe.
Our nerve tonic and So Happy have St john's Wart in them and we recommend to give a double dose the day before, the effects of St John's Wart will still do the job and you have a safe withholding period. Seda horse is a good alternative on the day of competition if you need that extra and then day after the nervetonic again. We are in the process of making new Seda horse without St John's Wart in it, at this stage there is a small amount in it. But again as far as we know they are at this stage not certain how to test for it.
MSM and pure Vit B's stop with them 2 days before. Epsom salt is banned too, Magnesium oxide ok. Arnica cream is detectable so watch out if you use it on yourself and then touch the horse. Ginseng they think is detectable but we don't have that in our products at all.
It's worth to buy this months Horse and pony and have a read of the article the Herbal Ban written by James Hart and if you have any concerns please don't hesitate to contact me.
